We like to encourage travelers to adopt mindful behaviour and practice slow travel. This concept allows us to fully enjoy and get to know a country. It also gives us enough time to interact with local people. Because what we care about most at RESPONS is connecting travelers with remote communities to support the families living there and foster cultural exchange. Read on below to find out how we do this!
RESPONS’ mission is to improve living conditions in Peru through the development and promotion of sustainable tourism. We’ve implemented a business model in which all areas of human relations are respected, and – equally important – respect for the planet is incorporated.
Following this business model, we practice fair trade, foster cultural identity, promote equal opportunities, and preserve the environment that surrounds us and other species. Together with you, we improve, day by day, on the always-demanding path towards sustainability.
In 2009, three intelligent young men – Guido, Alex, and Pablo – came together in search of improvement. Though many NGOs worked wonders for the Peruvian people, long-term support for communities in the tourism sector was still lacking. So the three of them decided to create RESPONSible Travel Peru with the goal of integrating communities into the tourism market in a way that would ensure their continuing success. The Peruvian communities inspired RESPONS’ existence and are an integral part of what we do!
Through our community-based approach to tourism, we foster, connect, and share our knowledge of cultures. The friendships we have formed with the Peruvian people through the years allow us to offer unique and authentic experiences to you. Trying to make your most eccentric desires a reality is the kind of challenge we are happy to accept and receiving travel requests for long trips is what we love to see!
Whether you want to taste exotic menus, go on extended trekking tours, indulge in the many facets of Peruvian life, or combine it all, we are eager to fulfill your sustainable travel dreams.
Absolutely all the RESPONS team lives or has lived in the country and has experienced being and feeling Peruvian. But our strength is undoubtedly our diversity. We have views from inside and outside the national territory, our team boasts youth intermingled with experience, and we are multidisciplinary.
From your first contact with us onwards, you will be able to confirm the knowledge that we have about the country. In the end, you may realize that despite being in a faraway country, you’re traveling just as fluently as a local.
Of course, you can continue to get inspired on our blog and read more about us, Peru, our tours and itineraries.
If you’ve read enough and you’re ready to travel RESPONSibly, there are two ways of doing so:
This is what we’ve been doing for over a decade now, and we love it! Less options of customization, but easy to book and still very authentic and unique experiences ready for all to enjoy.
Our logo is a stylized version of the quipu, with the natural colors of the Andes incorporated. The quipu is an incredible ancient tool consisting of colorful strings and knots and an iconic symbol of Peru. It was used by several pre-Columbian civilizations in Peru to precisely administer and share information throughout their empire or territory.
Quipus were taken to court as official documentation of records by quipucamayocs (the Tahuantinsuyo’s accountants). They were used as a staple tool, like a cellphone is a staple for traveling nowadays!
The quipu is a complex, yet flexible, administrative tool that could easily be adapted to any need; a clear parallel to our custom itineraries and the way we operate at RESPONS.
