There are few places in Peru where Guido and his motorbike have not gone yet. This makes him a great developer of off-the-beaten-track itineraries for adventurous travellers or companies searching for thematic experiences. As such, several television production companies have made use of Guido’s expertise to develop TV expeditions in remote areas of Peru.
His real strength though? Structuring RESPONS’ work, from sales to administration, in enormous Excel sheets. No wonder we ironically call him “Mr. Van Excel”.
Currently Guido lives in Europe but he visits Peru several months a year to make sure he doesn’t miss any news of this country in continuous transformation.
Guido’s connection with Peru was born in the beginning of 2002. During his studies “International Tourism Management and Consultancy” at the NHTV in Breda (Netherlands) he was accepted for a position at NGO The Mountain Institute in Huaraz: a small mountain town in northeastern Peru. It didn’t take long for him to fall in love with the country and the work he was asked to perform at the mountain community Vicos. It is here where his professional passion took form: a fierce belief that sustainable community-based tourism can make a real difference in the lives of local people.
The next step was to create an innovative concept enabling the local communities to be inserted into the tourism market. And so, in 2008, RESPONS was born! Over the years, it has grown into the largest community-based tourism platform of Peru.
