Build Your Trip

Taste the most typical Peruvian savours! Ceviche and lomo saltado are on the menu of this typical Peruvian food tour. Devour dishes, drinks and products in one of the most beautiful districts of Lima – the bohemian and artsy Barranco. Interact with our local hosts to learn how to prepare your ceviche, and a pisco chilcano.

During this tour, you’ll visit 8 places, which we carefully selected, where you will taste 15 different flavours of fruits, drinks, and dishes, and be introduced to local small entrepreneurs. Get immersed in Peruvian history and culture through food. As you will see, every bite has a story to tell!

You can choose the start time during the booking process. You can come to the Plaza San Francisco in Barranco at 9.30 am (3 pm, or 5pm) and then end the tour at around 1.30 pm (7 pm or 9 pm) at Barranco’s main square; la Plaza de Armas.

Notes

  • The menu may change slightly due to seasonality and product availability. But don’t worry, you won’t feel hungry at the end of this Barranco typical food tour.
  • The menu can be adapted to every diet. However, we are unfortunately not able to offer gluten-free, halal, and kosher products. And if you are looking for a vegan option we have this same tour in a vegan version Vegan Peruvian Food Tour in Artsy Barranco
  • Children under 12 years old can come for free to the tour but no meals will be considered for them, their parents will have to share with them. If you want us to consider meals for children under 12 years old, you must pay for a ticket. Free for children 0-5 years old. Children from 12 to 17 years old pay the “teenager” price: please select it in the booking form.

Why is this experience Impactful?

Of course, food waste can be an issue during this Food Tour in Barranco, as visitors don’t always manage to eat up. Therefore, the guide constantly observes the amount of food that people eat or don’t eat to adapt the size of the portions and reduce food waste to the absolute minimum. Plastic and other waste are also reduced where possible.

Around 8 different small restaurants are visited during this tour, which generates a great additional income for all of them. In addition to that, part of your money will go to the Impact Eat Foundation established in Canada in 2020, supporting small producers in Peru thanks to sustainable agritourism activity. In this tour, you will also visit a shop in Lima created that offers products from 40 different small Peruvian producers. One of these producers was able to open his own small Coffee Bar, thanks (partially) to the income generated by the shop.

Is this tour family friendly? If I am bringing an infant/very young child, do I need to purchase a ticket for them?

Traveling with a child under 6 or an infant? If they’re not going to directly participate, or if you prefer to share your food with your little one, there is no need to purchase an extra ticket. However, still let us know if you’re going to bring a child under 6, so our guide knows and will be prepared for it. You can do this by selecting “Infant” in the booking form.

Children between 6 and 11 can still go for free as long as they share the food with their parents. Also, select “Infant” for them.

For children of 12 years and older, or those that want to eat like the rest, please select “Child” for a special child discount.

Is it possible to book this food tour at a different time?

Yes, it’s possible! However, please note that you will need to reach out to us via the enquiry form of this tour and pay for a private food tour. The times shown on our website are small-group shared tours.

How likely am I to get sick?

With our tour, extremely unlikely. All the stops are carefully vetted by our team and we run regular checks to make sure they maintain the same standards, both in terms of quality of the food as well as hygiene. Food poisoning is of course something that shouldn’t be ignored in Peru, so we always recommend to eat or drink at places that were recommended by at least one local person, combined with positive online reviews.

I am Canadian and I live in Quebec. I have a BA in International Studies and Languages. After having traveled the world, I decided to specialize in community and solidarity tourism. It is during an international cooperation trip that I did in 2013 that I fell in love with Peru.

I have lived for several years in the capital where I developed a friendship with Jessy Caiado, another expat in Lima. Together we embarked on that great adventure that is Exquisito Peru. Our mission is to make you discover how incredible Peruvian gastronomy is through authentic culinary experiences.

We met Impactful Travel when they were still called RESPONSible Travel Peru in our beginnings in 2018 and we loved their commitment as well as the shared values, since developing a sustainable and responsible tourism is a pillar of our activities. To reinforce our social commitment, we have established the Impact Eat Foundation in Canada in 2020, to support small producers in Peru thanks to sustainable agrotourism activity.
