Safely upload your passports

Learn how to prepare them and send them to us.

To comply with Peru’s tax rules (and sometimes, to buy tickets for you), we are legally required to hand over a copy of each traveler’s passport to the Peruvian authorities. If we don’t have your passports (and correctly), we will have to Late Charge you 18% sales taxes. We’d rather have you spend that money in a local restaurant or on a typical souvenir from Peru!

Since it is very important for us that your passport is safe (and that we do not have fraud-sensitive documents on our servers) please read the following instructions carefully before sending the documents. The instructions will assist you to prepare your travel documents in such a way that no fraud can be done with them. But they will still be valid for the Peru tax agency.

These instructions are also in line with the latest EU (GDPR) and Canadian laws for Data Protection.

Thank you so much for your collaboration and let us know if you have any questions after having read the instructions below.

First, follow these instructions:

Select whether you’d like to do it in a more traditional, manual way, or in digital way. Both options are valid.

Note: click the +-button to view more details. When you’ve finished a task, you can “close” it by clicking the minus-sign in front of it.

The Manual Way

Step 1:Check if you are eligible for the tax exemptions

If no one in your group is a Peruvian resident and no one has been longer than 60 days in Peru until the last day of your services with us, then you’re good. If one or more of your travel companions are not eligible, please contact our support team and we’ll see what we can do for you to keep the additional costs as low as possible.

Step 2:Make a copy of the passport of each group member

Check whether every traveler in your group has a valid passport (valid for at least six months upon arrival to Peru) and print a copy from the main page (the one with the picture on it). A black and white copy is OK. Make sure that it is a very clear copy!

Step 3:Manually cover sensitive data on the image

This is the most important step! Take a black marker and for each passport copy, cross out or strikethrough the following:

  • Any social security numbers that might be visible on the passport.
  • The eyes of the person in the picture(s).
  • The signature (just partially is fine).
  • All unnecessary numbers in the number strip at the bottom (leave only the passport number).

Never cross out or cover the following data, they need to be readable at all times:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Nationality

See some examples in the gallery below.

Step 4:Write what the copy is for

Next step is to write on the copy something like “Copy for trip to Peru” and the date. This will make it even more difficult for criminals to use your copy in any way. You can write it anywhere (don’t exaggerate), as long as it doesn’t cover the most important information:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Nationality

Repeat the two previous steps for each passport. See some examples in the gallery below.

Step 5:Take a picture (or scan) and save the files

Now, scan or take a picture of each safe passport copy and save the file. If you do it with your smartphone, the pictures will be automatically saved. If you save them on your computer, help us to name each file by the name of the passport holder.

Please check whether the image is sharp and the important details can be read! If the name, DOB and passport number cannot be read well, the copy will be rejected by the authorities.

From the device where you have the files saved (your smartphone or computer), come back to this page and use the form below to send us the safe copies

The Digital Way

Step 1:Check if you are eligible for the tax exemptions

If no one in your group is a Peruvian resident and no one has been longer than 60 days in Peru until the last day of your services with us, then you’re good. If one or more of your travel companions are not eligible, please contact our support team and we’ll see what we can do for you to keep the additional costs as low as possible.

Step 2:Get all passports of your group

Check whether every traveler in your group has a valid passport (valid for at least six months upon arrival to Peru) and take (or ask for) a picture from the main page (the one with the picture on it).

Step 3:Save them as image files

Make sure that each passport is an image file; preferably use the person’s name as filename.  Image files are jpg, png, etc. If you’ve received a PDF, you can use the printscreen function of your computer and then paste into a simple imaging program, like Paint (Windows) or Paintbrush (Mac). If you received them on your mobile phone, they will be saved on your phone.

Step 4:Manually cover sensitive data on the image

This is the most important step! For each passport copy, please make sure to cross out and cover the following:

  • Any social security numbers that might be visible on the passport
  • The eyes of the person in the picture(s)
  • Your signature (partially is OK)
  • All unnecessary numbers in the number strip at the bottom (leave only the passport number)

Just use the “brush” of the painting program on your computer, in black or grey. Or draw a black line or square to cover it. You can also use mobile painting apps or even apps like Whatsapp or whichever you know, to do the same; drawing on the image. Do not use Word, PowerPoint or PDF editors, since they do not alter your image; they just place another layer on top of it, which a criminal could later easily erase again.

Never cross out or cover the following data, they need to be readable at all times:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Nationality

See some examples in the gallery below.

Step 5:Write what the copy is for

Next step is to write on the copy something like “Copy for trip to Peru” and the date. This will make it even more impossible for criminals to use your copy in any way. You can write it anywhere (don’t exaggerate), as long as it doesn’t cover the most important information:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • Nationality

See some examples in the gallery below.

Step 6:Save the file (and repeat for the next one)

Now, save the file (preferably with the name of the passport holder as filename) on your computer or phone and when you’re done with all of them, proceed to the upload form below. You can always come back to this page later. Save it as an image; not as a PDF (which might save different layers of the image). You can save it as jpg, png, etc.
