Are you a fan of the Peruvian cuisine? And want to know how to prepare those delicious local dishes yourself? Then this is your moment to join a cooking class in Cusco with chef Selia.
You can either start this experience at 8 am or at 2 pm according to your schedule and preferences. Choose the time that arranges best for you during the booking process, to let us know. You will be picked up from your hotel at the chosen starting time.
Selia is a very approachable person and it is very enjoyable being around her. For that reason alone, we know you will enjoy this experience a lot. But of course, you want to experience the country’s gastronomy! To do that, Selia is also the right person for you. She is our favorite chef in Cusco and our whole team is a big fan of her meals. Her Spanish is easy to understand for beginners and she will make sure you have a relaxed and easy-going experience, without being in a rush.
You will start the day by accompanying Selia to her preferred market in Cuzco (Cascaparo). Here, you will learn about the variety of ingredients, and how to recognize good quality, until you’ve got everything you need for the cooking.
Then it’s time to head to Selia’s restaurant (Mamá Seledonia) and get to work! While preparing, Selia will show you the do’s and don’ts of a typical Peruvian dish. Of course, you get to taste your masterpiece afterwards: ¡Buen provecho!
This tour ends after about 4 or 5 hours at Mama Seledonia. The restaurant is located close to the main square.
Of course, Cusco is a real hub, where you can easily spend a few weeks without getting bored. To make the best of your stay here, we invite you to have a look at all of our Cusco Day Tours. Our Cusco Multi-Day Tours are also unforgettable experiences, taking you on gorgeous treks through the Peruvian Andes.
This is a great meet-the-local experience, enabling you to get in contact with the people of Cusco. You will spend half a day with Selia, who is not only a great cook but also a true representative of the customs of the Cusquenian people.
To get the products you will cook with you will visit the local market, thus supporting the local vendors. You will explore the regional products and witness the interactions between vendors and customers where both call each other “casero/casera”, “papito/mamita”. Such a fun and loving way to refer to the other! Apart from buying your ingredients here, you can also learn about other traditions on the market, such as the Cuquenian hat or bread (Pan chuta).
By supporting Selia, you will also support her social project: She hires single mothers to work in her restaurants and bring their kids to work, which have a place to play and rest in the restaurant. Volunteers come here as well to spend time with the children, play with them and teach them.
If you suffer any allergy or have dietary restrictions, make sure to inform us during checkout and we will take the necessary precautions. Selia is used to catering for different kinds of travelers; even if you eat gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan or have nut allergy. We do need to know in advance though, please.
Totally!
Selia recommends kids to be at least 10 years old so they can actually take on certain tasks. And please consider the total number of participants (including kids) at the moment of booking or enquiring this experience. Thanks

It is not, but groups are small (up till 6 people max.) and you can always request a private tour with us, too.
Selia does not speak English, but some could get by with hands and feet (or use a smartphone with translation options). If you’re interested in adding a translator, please contact us.

Selia has been our great friend for many years. She has been organizing nice events for us, be it in her own restaurant or in the outdoors for occasional festivities.
Selia does not only offer cooking classes, she also prepares some of the best box lunches for our clients. On top of that, she even provides training for families and communities we work with, passing on her cooking expertise and recalling sanitary protocols.
Mom of three, she is always pushing forward and we celebrate all her accomplishments. Her cooking classes are a great success among our passengers, and we never hesitate to recommend them. Of course, if you prefer to be served your food instead of preparing it yourself, you can also just have dinner at her restaurant (Mamá Seledonia) to try one of her nice dishes.
